I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Psalm 32:7-9
The eye is a very important part of the body. It’s quite unimaginable how inconvenient it will be to live without sight. Throughout Jesus’ ministry, he constantly made statements with reference to the eyes. “Take out the log in your eyes”, He once told the Pharisees. On another occasion, He accused the Pharisees of being “blind guides”. In yet another instance, He made mention of the fact that the eyes give light to the body and if the eye was evil “how great is the darkness”! So QED, the eye is very important.
In the same manner, the bible makes several references to the eye of God and I must say it is quite significant mention as well. The eye of the Lord talks about God’s presence, his omnipresence, his oversight and foresight.
For instance, the bible says “the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him” (2 Chronicles 16:9). We also read of people doing what was right or evil in the eyes of the Lord. In Psalm 34:19, we read of the eyes of the Lord being on the righteous, In Proverbs 15:3 we read that the eyes of the Lord is in every place beholding good and evil; In Proverbs 5:21, we read that the way of man is before the eyes of the Lord.
So the eyes of the Lord is a reference to God’s character of omnipresence which also leads to his justice. Because God sees everything, he is a just judge. So what can we expect when the Lord says “I will guide you with my eye”?
Being guided by the eye of the Lord means receiving insight from him. How great is it to receive insight from thee one who knows everything, even the heart and ways of people we have to deal with everyday of our life! You wouldn’t take advice from someone we didn’t think was wise and had “expert” knowledge, would you? So here, God advertises a service “guidance with me eye” (that all-seeing eye)… Will you take on his services for every area of your life today. I definitely would and I hope you do too.
