Death, that word that sends cold chills down our spin. The thought of dying or being killed is unnerving for most of us. We love life and we love to live. That is the preoccupation of man. But death, what does that really mean. The end of life? or A change in state of being? or both.

No matter what your thoughts are, Death has this overwhelming power. This effect on us that even when we have been expecting it, and watch it slowly come, it still manages that blow below the belt that leaves the strongest man stunned and weak in the knees and the strongest woman with a broken heart.

The bible says “it is appointed to man once to die…” also, ”there is…a time to live and a time to die”. The big question at the point of death however always is…HOW DID YOU LIVE?

Live right now, so that you can Rest In Peace

The Power of Life

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7 KJV)

Have you ever been at a friend’s funeral or received the news that someone you knew was dead or dying? If you have, you will remember how that experience affected your outlook and your priorities. Suddenly or slowly, you realised that nothing- absolutely nothing was important to them anymore. No worries, to responsibilities nothing.

Just the day before, they could have been going on about an important engagement they ‘could not afford to miss’ because they were so key to its success. But now, it doesn’t matter anymore. Life or rather the lack of it tends to shrink things back to their ‘normal size’. Once you take life out of man, he is not worth much anymore.

The bible says God formed man from the dust of the ground (Gen 2 verse 7). God’s purpose for man was for man to be in his image and likeness- to be like him (Gen 1:26). Man just being formed out of the dust was nothing like God but thank God the bible continues in Genesis 2:7 “… and [God] breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul”. A living soul- just in the image and likeness of a living God!

This is why the fall is so serious. God told man that he will return to dust which meant that he will die- which is not a characteristic of God. Hence, God was saying that man will loose his God-likeness. In essence, man was going to malfunction. This reality makes the work of Jesus even more outstanding. It was the only ‘bug-fix’ for man’s malfunction. God cannot behold anything that is not God-like. Conversely, anything that is not God-like cannot withstand his presence. Therefore, Jesus who is God himself, came to take away the curse of death and re-imputed God-likeness on us. Jesus came to give us life instead of death!

By Him [Jesus] we are redeemed from the curse of death.
By Him we have life that has conquered death.
By Him we experience an everlasting Power of Life. Halleluyah!!
